The first thing I made on the metal lathe was a new switch knob for a living room lamp. The original knob was a smooth ball that was difficult to operate. So we replaced it with a wire nut that remained for years. I turned this new knob from brass, then drilled and tapped the shank for the switch shaft. To finish, I knurled the knob end to provide a good grip.
